Thai bank account frozen by the police or the cyber police

If a police station or the cyber police ordered the hold, the bank will not lift it on its own. The officer on the case has to send the bank a release letter. We find the case, meet the officer and prepare everything in Thai.

Signs that the police froze your account

Some signs are clear. Others only suggest a police hold and can have other causes. If you are not sure, send us what the bank told you and we will check.

Clear signs

  • The bank says there is a police order on the account and won’t lift it themselves.
  • The branch tells you to contact the investigating officer.
  • The bank printout shows a police station or the cyber police and a date.

Possible signs, not proof on their own

  • You can’t withdraw money even at the counter, and the app or card is blocked.
  • It started after a P2P trade, an exchange or a transfer from someone you don’t know.
  • Other banks refuse to open an account for you because of this hold.

How a police hold is lifted

The order matters: the bank waits for the police, so we start with the police.

Step 1

Find the case

We find out which police station or cyber police unit ordered the hold, who the officer is and what the complaint is about. The bank printout is often the starting point.

Step 2

Meet the officer

We go to the station, with you or first on our own, explain the transaction and hand over the evidence and an explanation letter in Thai.

Step 3

Get the release letter

When the officer is satisfied, the police send a letter to the bank asking to lift the hold. We follow up until the bank has actually received it.

Step 4

Unfreeze at the bank

We go with you to the branch, speak Thai for you and follow up for up to 30 days within your package.

Two-year police hold

The account was frozen for two years on an order from the Ayutthaya police, and the client’s own lawyer got no answer. Documents you may need

For the first message, a short description is enough. After the free case check, we tell you which documents to send and how.

  • Passport and visa
  • The bank printout or letter about the hold
  • An official bank statement for the period with the disputed transfer
  • Your bank book, if you have one
  • Proof of income or study
  • P2P or exchange screenshots and your chat with the other side
  • Any messages or letters from the police

Please don’t send passport or account numbers through the website form. We will tell you how to send documents safely.

What we can’t promise

  • The officer and the bank make the final decision. Nobody can honestly guarantee it.
  • We don’t pay officials and don’t use shortcuts. Only official procedures.
  • If the complainant asks for money back, whether to agree is your decision.
  • If the case goes to court, a licensed partner lawyer has to join. This is quoted separately.
  • The bank may close the account even after the hold is lifted.

Questions about police holds

How do I know it’s the police and not a bank review?
Ask the bank for a printout or a written answer. A police hold usually shows the police station or unit and the date of the order, and the branch tells you to contact the investigating officer. If the bank only asks you for documents, it is usually a bank review. Send us what the bank told you, and we will check.
Do I have to come to the police station?
Usually the officer wants to see the account holder at least once. Some steps we can do without you: finding the case, meeting the officer and delivering documents. In one of our cases the client was abroad, and we went to the police station without him.
The police station is in another province. What then?
This is common: the hold is placed by the station where the complaint was filed, not where you live. We travel there. VIP includes up to 2 working days of travel; tickets, hotel and transport are paid at cost.
How long does it take?
In our recent cases, from 2 weeks to 2 months. Finding the case and the officer often takes the longest. After the release letter, the bank needed from a few days to about 2 weeks.
The complainant wants money back. What happens?
Sometimes the complainant agrees to withdraw the complaint if part of the money is returned. Whether to agree is only your decision. We explain the options and interpret at the police station. We never pay officials.
There are several police cases on my account.
This happens, especially after P2P trades. Each case needs its own release. We check with the cyber police whether other cases remain, so you don’t find out only at the bank.
Can the bank itself report my account to the police?
Yes. In one of our cases, a client made large crypto exchanges every week through a licensed Thai exchange. The bank restricted the account itself and sent the case to the cyber police. We gave a statement at the cyber police, got the release document and then proved the source of funds at the bank. Our work took 3 working days, and the bank lifted the restriction about 7 working days later.
Will the bank keep my account open?
The bank decides. After a police hold, some banks release the money but close the account, especially on short-term visas. We tell you at the start what is realistic for your visa.
Not sure it’s the police?
