Thai bank account frozen? Find out why and get it unblocked

A Thai bank can freeze or restrict an account after a compliance review, missing KYC documents, unusual transfers or a police order. The branch often doesn’t explain why. First we find out who restricted the account and why, then we plan the shortest way to lift it.

Why Thai banks freeze accounts

The reason decides who can lift the restriction and what documents you need.

KYC update

Your passport, visa or address in the bank’s records is out of date, or the bank wants to see you in person.

Who decides: the bank

Source of funds questions

A large or foreign transfer arrived, and the bank wants proof of where the money came from.

Who decides: the bank

Unusual activity

Frequent large transfers, cash deposits or regular crypto exchanges. The bank may restrict the account and even pass the case to the cyber police.

Who decides: the bank, sometimes with the police

Police or cyber police order

A police station or the cyber police ordered the hold, often after a complaint about a transfer.

Who decides: the officer on the case

Police holds →

P2P or name mismatch

Money came from a person whose name doesn’t match the trade, or the other side of a P2P deal filed a complaint.

Who decides: the bank, or the police after a complaint

Not sure

Many clients don’t know the reason at first. That’s normal: finding it is the first step of every case.

Next step: a free case check

What to do first

  • Ask the branch for a printout or a written answer: what restriction it is and who ordered it.
  • Keep your passport, visa, bank book and recent statements ready.
  • Write down the large transfers of the last months and where the money came from.
  • Send us what the bank told you for a free case check.

What to avoid

  • Don’t sign bank forms you don’t understand. Ask for a copy first.
  • Don’t send money through other people’s accounts to “get around” the freeze.
  • Don’t pay anyone who promises a guaranteed unfreeze or a contact at the bank.
  • Don’t rush to other banks: while a hold is active, they may refuse to open an account.

How we unfreeze an account

Step 1

Free case check

From your description and the bank’s printout or message, we tell you the likely cause and what usually helps.

Step 2

Plan and quote

You get a clear plan, the package and the price in writing. You pay only after you agree.

Step 3

Bank contact and documents

We contact the bank in Thai and, if needed, the cyber police. Then we prepare the explanation letter, the source-of-funds evidence, the bank forms and the translations.

Step 4

Visits and follow-up

We go with you to the bank, and to the police if needed, and follow up for up to 30 days within your package.

Frozen after weekly crypto exchanges

The client exchanged large amounts every week through a licensed Thai crypto exchange. The bank restricted the account itself and sent the case to the cyber police. We gave a statement at the cyber police, got the release document and proved the source of funds at the bank.

After a crypto exchange for a friend, the card and account were frozen. We closed the first case, then the bank said other cases remained. Through the cyber police we found two more and closed them too; one complainant withdrew after an agreement.

Unblocked and a new account the same day

We went with the client to the cyber police and got the unfreeze papers. The same day we took them to the bank, which accepted them. The client also wanted a second account, so we helped him collect the documents and open it at Krungthai.

Questions about frozen accounts

The bank won’t tell me why. What can I do?
Ask the branch for a printout or a written answer. Staff often explain more when the right questions are asked in Thai. We can call the bank or go with you, and we check with the cyber police if a police order is possible.
How long does an unfreeze take?
It depends on who restricted the account. A simple KYC case often takes 1–3 weeks after the bank receives complete documents. Police holds took from 2 weeks to 2 months in our recent cases.
I have left Thailand. Can I still get my money?
Often yes. We can start remotely and do some steps without you. In one of our cases we lifted a police hold while the client was abroad. The bank may still ask you to come in person once, so we plan the case to keep trips to a minimum.
Should I open an account at another bank meanwhile?
Usually it’s better to fix the hold first. In our cases, other banks refused to open an account while a police hold was still active.
Will the bank close my account?
The bank decides. Sometimes the account stays open after the restriction is lifted; sometimes the bank releases the money and closes the account. We tell you at the start what is realistic for your visa and your case.
Which banks do you work with?
Bangkok Bank, Kasikornbank (KBank), SCB, Krungthai, Krungsri and other Thai banks. The process depends more on who restricted the account than on the bank itself.
Is this legal?
Yes. We work only through official procedures with the bank and the police. We are a registered Thai company, not a law firm. When a case needs legal representation, a licensed Thai lawyer joins it.
